Roliga Projekt

Gjort en tredje strykning ikväll, och nu börjar det kännas bra. Tjockleken och styrkan i glasfibern/epoxin börjar infinna sig. Givetvis så hade man utan problem kunnat lägga ett par lager till, men nån gång måste man ju ge sig! Få se imorgon hur det ser ut efter man borstat bort allt löst. Där finns fortfarande ett par ställen som blänker när man tar kort, men tror inte att det kommer att synas direkt när man är klar! Så länge det sitter hårt nog för att klara av att bli rengjort så kommer jag att vara nöjd, och jag tror inte att leguanerna kommer att bry sig!
Hur har jag nu gjort: Efter att glasfiberväven torkat ruggade jag upp ytan med sandpapper för att vara säker på att det skulle fästa. Sedan stryka på ett lager epoxi med pensel överallt. Vid första strykningen tog jag det ganska nätt med sanden - i stort sett så sprinklade jag bara på sanden med ett decilitermått. Allt för att inte skrapa bort epoxin. Givetvis så fastnar inte så mycket om man gör så, men det skapar en grund för resten av epoxin och sanden att fastna på! Väntade någon timme, sen på med ett flödigt lager epoxi på väggarna till damm och bäck. Sen hällde jag ut ordentligt med sand i mitten och masserade in det i epoxin med händerna (vinylhandskar). När jag gjort så längs hela bäcken, så hade sanden jag masserade in först börjat bli genomvätt av epoxin - så då kunde man ösa ner mer sand och gå en runda till och massera in.
Sedan lät jag det stå i ett dygn, innan jag upprepade det förra steget igen!
Andra bilden är tagen nere i bäcken mot landstigningsstället för eventuella vattensköldpaddor. Tredje bilden visar temperaturen i terrariet och under golvet i terrariet. Det blev varmt att jobba därinne i heltäckande dräkt och mask - med en 500W lampa och element. Men det torkar snabbt. Tempen under golvet är fö lågt i mitt tycke, men det ska lösas med två ventilationshål in till matrummet. Dessa kommer även att fungera utmärkt som inspektionshål för att se så inget vatten läcker ut!

Made a third pass tonight, and it's starting to feel good. The thickness and strength in the fibreglass/epoxy is starting to come creeping. Of course one could easily have put on a few more layers, but enough is enough! Will have to wait until tomorrow to see how it looks after i brush of all loose sand. Still a couple of places that shine through when I take pictures, but I don't think it will noticable when I'm done! As long as it sticks on hard enough for thourough cleaning, I'm happy - and I don't think the iguanas will care much about it!
How did I do it: After the fibreglasscloth had dried up, I ruffed up the surface using sandpaper to be sure the epoxy would stick. Then I coated everything with a layer of epoxy with a brush. During the first pass I took it easy with the sand, basically I just sprinkled it on with a decilitercup. Anything so I wouldn't risk scraping off the epoxy. Of course by doing it this way, there won't be much sand that sticks, but it creates a good base for the rest of the epoxy and sand to stick to! Waited an hour or two, then coated the walls on the pond and creek with a thick layer of epoxy. Then I poured out a good amount of sand in the middle and rubbed/massaged it into the epoxy with my hands (vinylgloves). When I had done that on the entire length of the creek/pond, the sand I massaged in first had become wetted through by the epoxy - added more sand and massaged that in too.
Then I let that sit for a day, before repeating the last step again!
The second image is taken from down in the creek towards the basking area for any eventual water turtle/s. The third image shows the temperature (in Celcius) in the terrarium. Got hot working in there in protective clothing/facemask - with a 500W light and a heater. But it dries fast! The temperature below the floor is tow low for my liking, but it will be solved with two ventilationholes into the diningroom. These will also work great as inspectionholes to see if any water is leaking out!
